Synopsis

Kamisama Kiss – Season 1 is a supernatural romantic comedy anime that followed Nanami Momozono, a high school girl who unexpectedly became a local deity. After her father abandoned her due to gambling debts, Nanami met a mysterious man named Mikage who granted her his shrine and his divine powers. The season stars Suzuko Mimori as Nanami and features her struggle to manage a shrine while working with a fox familiar named Tomoe. This first installment established the rules of the spirit world and the growing bond between a human girl and her supernatural servants.

Kamisama Kiss – Season 1 Story and Season Setup

Kamisama Kiss – Season 1 began with Nanami Momozono finding herself homeless after her father fled from his creditors. A chance encounter with a man named Mikage changed her life when he offered her his home as a reward for saving him from a dog. Upon arrival, Nanami discovered the home was actually the Mikage Shrine and that she had inherited Mikage’s position as the local Land God. This season followed her struggle to manage divine responsibilities despite having no prior experience with spirits or shrines. She immediately met Tomoe, a powerful and fox familiar who initially refused to serve a human god. To bind him to her service, she had to initiate a formal contract. The season’s conflict centered on Nanami proving her worth to the supernatural community and Tomoe. As she learned to perform rituals and hear prayers, she also had to balance her life as a high school student.

Kamisama Kiss – Season 1 Cast and Returning Characters

The cast featured Suzuko Mimori as the voice of Nanami Momozono, the optimistic student turned deity. Her performance anchored the show as Nanami navigated her new role at the shrine. Shinnosuke Tachibana voiced Tomoe, the fox familiar whose relationship with Nanami drove the narrative forward. Daisuke Namikawa played Kurama, a popular idol who was actually a crow tengu from the mountains. Daisuke Kishio provided the voice for various characters, while Yui Horie appeared as Numano Himemiko, a catfish princess seeking help from the new god. Satomi Sato voiced Ami Nekota, Nanami’s friend at school. These characters created a mix of high school drama and mythological conflict throughout the episodes. The chemistry between the leads focused on the contractual bond between a god and a familiar. This season established the recurring cast members who appeared throughout Kamisama Kiss to challenge or assist Nanami, including the snake familiar Mizuki.
